New funds to engage the arts in community challenges

The Colorado Creative Industries Division of the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade (OEDIT) will be providing funding for its second round of funding this year to 32 artists and organizations in the state, two of which are in Aurora.

The integration of culture and arts into multiple disciplines that are deemed critical to the health and wellbeing of those in Colorado is supported by Arts in Society. Arts in Society looks to fund collaborations across the state and brings together professionals and artists from many non-arts sectors to raise awareness about community welfare and social justice. This new funding has been accelerated to increase community resiliency through the arts.

One of the organizations in Aurora to receive funding is the Lighthouse Writers Workshop, which is to offer workshops in writing to undocumented immigrants who have been released from prison to enable them to tell their stories and experiences as they transition to a new life. Another organization is Vintage + Roshni, which will use its funds to provide an afterschool program to help immigrant and refugee students in Aurora tell their stories through the performing arts.

The total funding will amount to $495,000 through the Arts in Society grant program. The community can be made aware of such funding and its benefits through poster printing.
