The campus spans 780,000 square feet and is on a site of 148 acres. It is the first greenfield production and manufacturing facility of PMI in the US. The cost of the project was over $1 billion and was completed in 19 months.
The Aurora plant enlarges the production capacity of PMI, increase its resilience to fluctuations in the supply-chain, and spreads the manufacturing footprint of the company in the United States. It also places Aurora as a significant hub for export and production that will support continued growth. The new facility will help meet rising demand and work alongside existing plants in North Carolina and Kentucky.
CEO of PMI U.S., Stacey Kennedy, said:
“Aurora represents an important milestone for PMI U.S. and our continued investment in our business here. . . It reflects our confidence in American workers, U.S. manufacturing, and the long-term growth opportunities ahead for our business.”
The campus in Aurora will employ about 500 people. Once it is fully operational, it will support 1,000 jobs indirectly and is expected to have an economic impact of about $550 million each year.
