The Aurora Public Schools (APS) will be offering free breakfast and lunch to children of school age and other young people.
The Nutrition Services of APS will be offering a free breakfast and lunch to those 18 years of age and younger at 30 locations around the city. Among the locations are The Moorhead Recreation Center, Horseshoe Park, Ricky Ridge Park, and Hillcrest Village.
Poster printing can be used throughout a school district so that children and their families know where they can find such free meals over the summer.
In addition, the APS will be participating in a new program to be offered by that will provide free meals at schools to all students beginning this fall. The program is called Healthy School Meals for All and is designed to ensure that all students get the necessary nutrition they need. This will allow them to learn while at the same time eliminating the stigma that is sometimes associated with offering free meals based on income levels.
Voters had approved a funding measure called Proposition FF that will generate over $100m a year by reducing income tax deductions for households that earn $300,000 or more.
This free summer meal service will be offered through Saturday, August 5. There will be five additional school districts that are providing lunches only this month, continuing until Friday, June 30.
