Englewood looks to revitalize downtown area

City officials from Englewood are looking to initiate a plan for the downtown area that runs from the CityCenter area east to the hospital district.

The plan, which is likely to interest residents of nearby areas like Aurora, includes potentially building a hotel for community members, hospital users, and visitors to the CityCenter; filling vacant storefronts along Broadway; adding residential units or affordable housing near the light rail station; renovating existing and creating new open spaces; completing an east-west bicycle and pedestrian corridor; and encouraging those with offices in the downtown to bring in more workers who would patronize local restaurants and merchants.

Totaling 73 pages in length, the Englewood Downtown Plan hopes to:

“…cultivate a vibrant Downtown activity zone that extends throughout every evening and weekend. . . and market the downtown as a destination.”

A brand would be created for the area that would be shown in public art and decorative lighting to create a sense of belonging among the three sub-areas in the downtown. Professional Logo Design could also be used to help promote such brands.

The city is hoping to create a downtown development authority that would work with businesses in the area to engage in various activities that would support the economic viability of the area. The development authority would also implement the city’s plans.
