Aurora to open new trail and bridge

Bike to Work Day in Aurora at the end of the month will highlight the opening of a pedestrian bridge and trail connection. The new bridge spans Interstate 70 on the High Line Canal trail east of Tower Road.

The city will be hosting a breakfast station serving coffee, fruit, and doughnuts on the south side of the new pedestrian bridge. A little further south on the High Line Canal trail just northeast of the Aurora Municipal Center, near the trail underpass on Chambers Road along its west side, there will be another breakfast station. Bicycle Aurora will be sponsoring breakfast burritos and beverages. Both breakfast stations will be from 6:45am to 9:00am. As part of its Connecting Aurora initiative, the city is encouraging those who stop by either station to share their views about transportation in the city.

The city will be joined by the High Line Canal Conservancy at 8:30am for a ribbon cutting ceremony that will mark the High Line Canal Trail: Colfax to I-70 project’s opening. This project has closed a gap of two miles along the canal. After the ribbon cutting ceremony, there will be an official walk across the bridge. Such unique events and the projects they focus on are often promoted throughout a city with poster printing.

The opening and the events that come with it will be on Wednesday, June 26.
