Aurora to meet with police chief candidates

The city of Aurora now has four candidates to become the new chief of police.

They are:

• Vanessa Wilson, the interim chief for the Aurora Police
• Avery Moore, assistant police chief, Dallas Police Department
• Alexander Jones, bureau chief. Baltimore County Police Department
• Marcus Dudley Jr., a commander with Aurora Police

The community, members of the police department, and members of the city council will be able to meet with the candidates in a virtual town hall. Residents are being encouraged to take part in the town hall and will be able to ask questions beforehand. After the town hall, there will be a survey provided online to which residents can provide feedback on the candidates. This will be available for one week after the town hall.

Notification of such meetings can be made known throughout the community with poster printing.

Aurora city manager, Jim Twombly, commented on the excellence of each of the candidates and everyone is looking forward to meeting with each of them. He added that as people re-examine the operations and roles of police departments across the country that this provides an opportunity for the city to determine its future. He said that input from all stakeholders in the city is important.

The town hall meeting will take place on Tuesday June 23 at 7:00 p.m. A final recommendation will be made by the city manager next month with confirmation by the city council.
