The city of Aurora is planning several events in celebration of the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. this month.
This series of events will reflect on the man who was a prominent voice for the civil rights of Black people in the 1950s and 1960s. Such events are often promoted citywide with poster printing.
Tomorrow, January 8, there will be an opening celebration, vigil, and proclamation reading at the Aurora Municipal center. This opening celebration will include music, dance, and theater with refreshments being served. This will be followed by the reading of a commemorative proclamation from 4:30 to 7:00 pm.
Later in the week, there will be a discussion panel where attendees can learn about the visits Dr. King made to the Denver area and listen to the reflections of Aurora residents on how his ideas shaped the city. This event will be on Wednesday, January 10 at the Aurora History Museum from 6:00 to 7:30 pm.
To conclude the week, city leaders and members of the public can attend a wreath-laying ceremony at the library. There will also be an event for members of the community to assemble care items and hygiene kits for students and families of the Aurora Public Schools. Both events will be on Saturday, January 13, with the wreath ceremony from 11:00 am to noon and the assembling of care packages from 9:00 to 11:00 am.
