Ground has been broken on a new recreation center for Aurora in the southeast corner of the city.
The center will cover 62,000 square feet and offer a gym, a waterslide, and many other amenities including a raised running and walking track, cardio equipment, pools, and weightlifting gyms. There will also be patios and lounges with views of the Rockies and the Aurora Reservoir. Flyer printing is often used to highlight the features and amenities at such new facilities once they are operational.
Councilmember Francoise Bergan said that the facility will catch people’s eyes and will be designed to blend with the environment. Bergen added that the gym in particular was a feature that residents and families most needed as the closest public gym is currently in Centennial or Parker.
The center is expected to cost $42m and will be funded by tax revenues from the city. It will be located on E. Alexander Drive, east of Harvest Road and south of infinity Middle School. This recreation center is the latest public project in the area, following on from the Tollgate Crossing Neighborhood Park that opened in December in southeast Aurora. Bergan said that plans are in the works to build another sports complex and a field house near the new gym.
The recreation center is expected to open in early 2023.
