Aurora to build mental health treatment facility

The district board of education in Aurora has voted on a name for the mental health day treatment facility which is being built at Cherry Creek Schools. It will be called Traverse Academy.

Community members in the district, staff, and contractors at the University of Colorado School of Medicine and Children’s Hospital Colorado provided 40 selections from which this name was selected.

The new treatment center will be a partnership between Children’s Hospital Colorado and the department of psychiatry at Colorado University. It is believed that this is the first of its kind partnership and has received attention from across the country. Such partnerships may look to their local Stationery printers to get printed materials with more information about the services that will be provided at the facility.

The center is expected to cost close to $15m to build and is being funded by a bond measure of $150m approved by voters in 2020. One member of the board of the Cherry Creek School District, Anne Egan, thanked the voters for approving the bond measure and praised the Aurora school district for its work. Egan added that Cherry Creek will lead the way in the treatment of mental health.

The new facility is expected to open in the fall of 2023 at the Joliet campus in the district.
