Aurora to award funds for community safety

Community groups, non-profit organizations, and small businesses will be supported by three grant programs from the city of Aurora, using funds from the American Rescue Plan Act.

The Aurora Safety and Security Grant Program will be the first program, awarding a total amount of $3m. Entities located along Colfax Avenue between 14th and 16th Avenues and between Yosemite and Peoria Avenue will be specifically allocated $500,000 of these funds. This program will go towards security and safety upgrades for community groups, non-profit organizations, and small businesses. More information about who can apply for such grants and their requirements can be made available with flyer printing.

Those who are eligible for these funds will be able to make physical changes related to entrance doors, windows, alarms, and cameras so that law enforcement will be able to react more effectively and efficiently to issues of public safety. Local contractors who are approved by the city will be awarded the contracts for the work.

Eligible applicants for the grants will undergo a Safety and Security Assessment with the Aurora Police Department so that the upgrades can be identified and approved. Funding will be made available on a first come, first served basis and will be given out up until Thursday, June 30, or until the funds have been completely allocated.
