The Rose Community Foundation has recently awarded grants to several non-profit organizations and schools in Aurora to support Afghan refugees.
Among these organizations are Aurora Mental Health and Recovery and the Village Exchange Center. The Village Exchange Center received a grant of $261,000 and Aurora Mental Health received $336,000. Aurora Public Schools, which also has the largest number of refugees in the state, received over $700,000, which will go towards services to help these young people better integrate into society. Brochure printing is one way to inform residents of such awards and their benefit for the community.
The Colorado Department of Human Services received the funds from the federal government and decided to partner with Rose to distribute the funds to worthy organizations. Sarah Kirz, vice president of public affairs, said this enabled Rose to allocate the money to smaller non-profit organizations that might not otherwise have received such funding due to the somewhat complicated process of applying for them.
Kurz added that this process enabled organizations to be reached that might not be the typical recipients of federal funding. Kurz said that the focus of the Rose Foundation was on organizations that had proved themselves to work well with refugees and immigrants.
The funding from the grants is for a period of 18 months which will run through October 2024.
