Raytheon Technologies Corp., a defense contractor based in Waltham, Massachusetts, is looking to fill hundreds of aerospace-related technology and software jobs in Aurora in the upcoming years.
Vice president and general manager of Raytheon Space and Intelligence, Bill Sullivan, said that the company is growing rapidly as the aerospace industry is gaining momentum. There are currently 2,500 people employed at its Aurora office and this number could increase by 400 to 500 people by 2024. Most of these new positions would require business card printing services.
Due to a merger between Raytheon and United Technologies in April, the new company has become the second largest defense contractor in the United States. This also added to the Aurora facility the oversight of sensor technology and space hardware development as part of its data management specialties and satellite ground-control system development. The existing Raytheon Space and Intelligence division now has its major hub in Aurora.
Raytheon’s offices in Aurora are near Buckley Air Force Base, where many of the surveillance and space-based signals systems are developed. Consequently, Raytheon has been awarded many new contracts that require software engineers and data scientists who have knowledge of large-scale integration of software systems and cybersecurity. The company is looking to develop a new generation of technologies around the use of data collected in space by the military.
