High school students from West Sacramento, Sacramento and the surrounding areas are invited to participate in a three-day program that will allow them to see, up close and personal, how state government works.
The Civics Bootcamp is geared to those in grades 9 to 12, and will provide them with a grounding in both local and state government, as well as advocacy and engagement in the process of public administration. They will learn how the process of lawmaking works, from its initial stages to the moment when a new law is passed as well as how to advocate for change.
Those who wish to take part will need to make their own arrangements for transportation to and from the state capital, and a free lunch will be provided to all participants. There is no cost to register for the bootcamp. The event is being sponsored by the Black Youth Leadership Project (BYLP). Presentation Folders can be printed for events such as this to hold Brochures, handouts and other informational materials that may be helpful to the students who choose to get involved.
The Civics Bootcamp will take place from July 5th until July 7th at the California State Capitol Building in Sacramento. Those who are interested in signing up need to do so by July 4th. Further details and an opportunity to register can be found on the BYLP website.
