What's Happening in West Sacramento, CA…

Romantic drama screening in West Sacramento

West Sacramento’s Arthur F Turner Community Library is hosting a screening of The Sun Is Also a Star this December.

The screening for the PG-13 film, aimed at teens 13-17, will also include a hot cocoa bar.

Based on a best-selling young adult novel of the same name by Nicola Yoon, the film centers on a Jamaican-American teen, Yara Shahidi’s Natasha Kingsley, who unexpectedly finds romance with Charles Melton’s Daniel Jae Ho Bae, when her family is on the verge of deportation.

The college-bound Daniel is convinced they’re fated to be together after just meeting the girl during a typical hustle-and-bustle day in New York City, which is shaping up to be Natasha’s last in the United States. An aspiring medical school student who grounds her worldview in logic and science, Natasha fights her feelings of love even as she must fight to keep her family together.

With only 12 hours left before the deportation deadline, can Natasha secure her future for herself and her family, and will it involve the romantically optimistic Daniel?

Both Melton and Shahidi received Teen Choice Award nominations for their portrayals.

Movie screenings like this may choose to use brochure printing for season schedules, audience programs or beverage menus.

The Sun Is Also a Star is screening on December 30 at 4 p.m. in the meeting room of the Arthur F Turner Community Library at 1212 Merkley Ave in West Sacramento.
