Sacramento to get new electric buses

Two major bus companies in the Sacramento region recently announced that they were working on a joint proposal to procure 10 electric buses and use them along the Yolo Causeway between downtown Sacramento and UC Davis campus.

Last year, automotive giant Volkswagen agreed to donate a total of $44m in order to increase the use of electric cars within West Sacramento and other surrounding areas, and this has helped to fund the project.

Yolo transit and Sacramento RT officials also stated that they were thinking of running these electric buses between Sacramento International Airport and downtown Sacramento with a stopover in Natomas.

Darrell Steinberg, the Sacramento Mayor, said the move should help to connect the city and the campus, and will go some way towards a future of straightforward and eco-friendly transportation between the two areas.

Steinberg and Gary May, UC Davis Chancellor, had earlier announced that they were forming a task force in order to explore the designing of new transit links between the Davis’ campus and the city as well as the construction of a new education and technology campus in Sacramento.

Electrify America, a Volkswagen subsidiary, has requested for proposals from various groups capable of running fleets of clean buses or shuttles within the Sacramento area. These groups could use banner printing to promote their shuttle services.
