Historic road trip exhibit at the California Auto Museum

The California Auto Museum has several exhibits and events scheduled for the winter months, no doubt tempting people to make the short journey from West Sacramento.

The museum, which focuses on the art, history, and technology of autos, has a special exhibit called ‘Hitting The Road: Road Trippin Through History’ running until February 25. Exploring the theme of traveling by car with the family, it shows how road trips have changed the US.

The spotlight will be on road trips in the ‘50s, ‘60s, and ‘70s and how industries grew around this culture. There will be station wagons, campers, Route 66 Signs carrying the iconic Logo Design, travel Brochures, and other memorabilia on display.

Every month on the first Saturday, the museum has a workshop called Tinker Time. It will be on January 5 and February 2 at 11:00 am, and activities range from riding in classic cars to learning how to pinstripe cars.

Next Saturday, January 5, Tinker Time will focus on clay modeling and how cars are designed. Kids of all ages are invited to participate.

Every third Sunday, the museum has Sunday Drive from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm, so this is coming up on January 20 and February 17. Participates can ride through downtown in vintage cars for free with museum admission.

The museum is located at 2200 Front Street in Sacramento and is open 10:00 am to 5:00 pm daily, except for being closed on Tuesdays and holidays.
