Historic hotel goes under the hammer

A building that was once the Senator Hotel is soon going to be auctioned, but its future is uncertain.

The location has received favorable comments from two experts in commercial real estate. Print companies in West Sacramento could be used by a new owner to promote a new enterprise. However, an entrepreneur would need to develop concrete plans before they could embark on such a course.

The building was completed back in the 1920s. Since 1983, the structure has housed office space. Nevertheless, David Herrera, an expert who is employed at Colliers International in Sacramento, has said that refurbishment is required to attract suitable future tenants.

Herrera has explained to the Sacramento Business Journal that:

“It would take someone with a clear understanding of the building, knowledge of the Sacramento market and the wherewithal to go in and improve it and make it compete for users.”

On the other hand, the renovations might not need to be so comprehensive, according to Ken Turton, who works at Turton Commercial Real Estate. Mr. Turton has contended that prospective tenants would not be as demanding as Herrera has indicated, especially if they were offered accommodation at reasonable prices.

The idea of converting the space back into a hotel does not appear to be a probable option though, with Herrera having stated that such a decision would entail extra spending on new bathrooms and kitchens.
