Gallery 1075 at the West Sacramento Community Center in California will be featuring local African American artistic talent in their new exhibit dedicated to African American History Month next month.
Our Art Matters: Visualizing the African American Experience is a collection of art the Center will have on display throughout the month of February. Submissions were accepted from both local professionals and artists in high school. The pieces in the gallery are family-friendly and will all be 2D, although the medium and size can vary. Influential historical figures will also be put on display in the gallery.
The theme encompasses all depictions of African American life, including topics such as relevant historical events and social justice. While submissions for the event have already closed, the community is more than welcome to show their support at the gallery once the exhibit is completed. Any questions about the collection can be answered by following the contact information provided on flyer printing utilized by the gallery.
The West Sacramento Community Center will begin displaying the new exhibit on February 2 until 27. There will be a closing ceremony for the gallery on February 27 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, where light refreshments will be provided to the attendees. Our Art Matters is free and open to the public, and can be viewed when the community center is open during the week.
