Experts look to assist West Sacramento with food matters

Three technology specialists have come to West Sacramento with the goal of using computer programming to improve the diet of local people.

The hope is that this Code for America project can make food more accessible to people living in the small city. The nonprofit organization behind the initiative is based in San Francisco, and has been working with local government in several places in order to boost capability.

The Sacramento Area Council of Governments has decided to become a partner to the scheme. Mayor Christopher Cabaldon has stressed that it will be important for the solutions to be simple in nature. A Print company in West Sacramento could be used to help advertise the project.

Mayor Cabaldon has told the Sacramento Bee:

“We want to create something to be scaled to other communities, that will be simple for a Winters or a Galt, to create a new way of civic technology. We want to work in the area of food.”

According to the Mayor, West Sacramento is already a food hub. This has meant that the team of experts has already been able to discuss some of the issues with government officials, businesses, and academic researchers.

The idea is that the specialists will regularly visit West Sacramento this year. Imanol Aranzadi, a developer and designer, has commented that many individuals have expressed an interest in participating in the process.
