Advocate for animals in the state capital

The annual California Animal Advocacy Humane Lobby Day will be held from 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. tomorrow at the CSAC Conference Center, on 1100 K Street (2nd floor), Sacramento.

The event is sponsored by the Humane Society of the U.S., the ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) and several other animal lovers.

California Human Lobby Day helps animal advocates give a voice to animals by meeting directly with elected officials in the state capitol.

Topics to be addressed will include ways to stop the sale of animals at swap meets, ending cruel trapping practices of wildlife, protecting bobcats, and the requirement of non-lead ammunition while hunting.

Those who instead want to see wildlife firsthand can take a nature walk tomorrow at the Bannister Park, 3820 Bannister Road in Fair Oaks, right next door to West Sacramento.

The walk will be held from 10:00 am to noon and will travel along the American River over to see ducks and geese at the San Juan Rapids. Participants should meet at the WW center at 9:15 am in order to arrive at the park by 10:00 am.

Parking is free and dogs are welcome at the park as well. Travel will be along a dirt trail and over river rocks, so walkers should be sure to wear comfortable shoes. The walk to the river will take approximately 25 minutes.

Participants should bring a snack and water. Postcard printing is an affordable way to let residents know of upcoming community events like these.
