Town and Country to be remodeled

The Town and Country Resort and Convention Center was built in 1953 and is the oldest hotel in San Diego, California's, Mission Valley. Now, it's going to be given an $80 million facelift, starting in 2018. The property has started to show its age, making renovations desirable.

According to Todd Majcher, a Lowe Enterprises vice president, the makeover will involve demolishing approximately 25% of the resort in order to make room for four residential buildings of seven stories each, which will offer a total of 840 housing units. Goals of the remodel include making the approach to and front of the resort more attractive and driver-friendly. Families' interests are also being taken into account, since Lowe intends to demolish bungalows that are located near the pool, and replace them with a family-friendly water park.

Majcher says the buildings that are set to be razed are the oldest, most dilapidated single-story structures on the site. In addition, Kelly's Steakhouse and Bella Tosca spa will also be taken down to make room for the residential buildings.

In addition, Majcher says the original building was a classic of the mid-century modern style, but over the years, additions and modifications have changed it into something unrecognizable. He hopes to restore it to its original architectural style, which is attractive and very popular once again.
