Willie Nelson, who turned 90 in 2023, is still going strong and is on tour with Asleep at the Wheel. The two powerhouse artists will be appearing at the Rady Shell in Jacobs Park.
Willie Nelson was born in Abbott, Texas, joined a band when he was ten, and played gigs throughout high school. He moved to Nashville in 1960, signed with Liberty Records in 1961 and released his first studio album, “… and Then I Wrote,” with them.
He struggled for success initially, but is now acknowledged as one of the founders of the “outlaw country” music genre. His albums “Shotgun Willie,” “Red Headed Stranger,” and “Stardust” established him firmly as one of music’s biggest stars. Songs such as “Hello Walls” and “Funny How Time Slips Away” have become standards.
A review notes:
“The concert was pure Heaven! Willie was absolutely amazing!”
Asleep at the Wheel is based in Austin and has been going strong since 1970. They have nine Grammys to their credit, more than 20 albums, and put over 21 singles on the charts. Their hits include “Get Your Kicks on Route 66.” A review says:
“Wow! 48 years and still the best show ever! Thanks for a great show . . . “
The show is scheduled for April 22. When events like this are planned, organizers will often turn to poster printing to create exciting advertising for them.
