Electro-funk duo coming to San Diego
A Canadian duo making a name for themselves in the electro-funk genre are coming to San Diego.
Moontricks comprises Sean Rodman and Nathan Gurley, who first met in British Columbia at a music festival.. The duo is based in Western Canada, in the Kootenay Mountains, where nature and its endless cycles provide inspiration for their music. They find nature both constant and changeable, and use that to bring together folk and electronic music, which are also dissimilar.
Their songs are traditional with a futuristic touch, mixing straight-ahead Blues with roots rock and organic folk music, and adding in modern electronic production. Their first release, “Home,” has been streamed more than ten million times, and various networks, including Fox Sports and Netflix, have licensed their music. Their newest release is a full-length album, “Currents,” a blend of Blues, bass, and electronic arrangements. A review says:
Also on the bill for the concert is High Step Society, a party band inspired by the big bands of the past. A seven-piece group, they infuse jazz with EDM, a blend that echoes that of Moontricks. The fusion is also illustrated by the fact they are based in both New Orleans and Portland Oregon.
Moontricks and High Step Society will be at the Music Box on January 18. Organizers of shows like this often use poster printing to advertise them.

“Amazing! Moontricks blew my mind live. They looked like they were having a genuinely good time on stage . . .”
