San Bernardino fathers invited to conference

All dads will want to mark their Calendars for the 2nd Annual Inland Empire Fatherhood Conference coming up later this week.

The conference will be put on by the Inland Empire Father Involvement Coalition and will be hosted by San Bernardino Valley College. The event is to celebrate fatherhood and equip, inspire, and educate fathers to be fully involved in their children’s lives.

Workshops, talks and exhibits will cover topics related to parenthood and how to manage kids. Guest speaker will be Jaiya John, spoken word artist and author of a book on parenting. Guests will receive free breakfast and lunch. Several giveaways can be expected. Spanish-speaking dads will have translators available.

The IEFIC is dedicated to addressing a trend of father absenteeism in San Bernardino children’s lives. Along with presenting this conference, the coalition has sponsored a Back to School Supplies event, a Reading Campaign, two Fatherhood Success Breakfasts, and was a 2016 National Association of Counties Achievement Award winner.

Over 15 local organizations have partnered with IEFIC. Some of these are Operation New Hope, the Children’s Fund, San Bernardino County Children’s Policy Council, SBC Children’s Network, SBC Superintendent of Schools, and SBC Gangs and Drugs Task Force.

The conference will be in San Bernardino Valley College’s Main auditorium, 701 S. Mount Vernon Avenue from 8:00 am until 3:00 pm this Saturday, August 20. The event will be free.
