San Bernardino area celebrates Juneteenth

Juneteenth is being celebrated in the San Bernardino area with an annual cultural event featuring music, food, and other activities.

The Juneteenth Jam in Rialto brings the festivities to Alec Fergusson Park for a celebration of history, local vendors, movies, and more. There will also be athletic activities like basketball and skating.

The event is being put on by a number of organizations, including Black the Block, Fentwood Hoops, DEV Partnerships, and Stronger Together Now, the latter of which is a nonprofit organization formed in the wake of 2020 and aims to educate and empower local community members.

Stronger Together Now also helps organize a number of other events throughout the Inland Empire, including Soul Food Fest, Giving Events, and La Mas Festival. The group is also involved with academic, youth enrichment, and volunteer programs.

The Rialto Juneteenth Jam event also features a market with local vendors, including non-profit organizations, schools and food carts.

The festivities are all in the name of celebrating Juneteenth, which became a federal holiday in 2021. It celebrates a historic day in 1865 when the final remaining slaves in the U.S. got word that they were now free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed.

Such community events may choose to use banner printing to create visible signage for activities.

The Rialto Juneteenth Jam is happening on Thursday, June 19 from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Alec Fergusson Park.
