The North State Symphony is performing their rendition of Carmen Reimagined at Redding’s Cascade Theatre this fall.
Led by conductor and maestro Scott Seaton, Carmen Reimagined is the North State Symphony’s reworking of the classic 19th-century opera by Georges Bizét.
Though it is a symphonic performance, rather than a full-blown staged opera featuring sets and actors, the music contains the same heightened drama and romance as the play.
Globally recognized accordionist Hanzhi Wang will bring his unique flair, joining the orchestra for Astor Piazzolla’s “Aconcagua Concerto.”
Piazzolla’s Libertango will also be part of the set list of songs during the event, whose tickets are priced at $31 and up.
The symphony will provide insights into just how they retooled Bizét’s original music from Carmen into something new, with a “Behind the Curtain” Q&A before the concert. It will include stories, shared by conductor Seaton, related to behind-the-scenes collaborations and how the musical arrangements came to be.
Among the changes is Rodion Schedrin’s “Carmen Suite,” a medley of well-known melodies from the opera reconfigured into a faster-paced package of tunes and a more intense delivery.
Symphony performances like this may choose to use brochure printing to create music Books and audience programs.
North State Symphony’s performance of Carmen Reimagined is happening on November 14 at 7:30 pm at the Cascade Theatre at 1733 Market St in Redding. The “Behind the Curtain” pre-concert Q&A begins at 6:30 pm.
