Feast of historical food held in Monrovia

This August, Monrovia is hosting a unique culinary experience that recreates historically accurate food from the Ottoman Empire.

As part of the Perfectly Period Feast series of events, the full-course meal aims for complete immersion into a time and place in the past. For this event, it features recreations of food from the Ottoman Empire from the 1550s.

Everything from the garb of organizers and participants to the featured music and style of the meal presentation will reflect the culture of the peak period of Suleiman the Magnificent’s reign during the Ottoman Empire.

Historical immersion is the goal of the event and participants are asked to come prepared with period-accurate clothing and engage in customs true to the era, including specific handwashing ceremonies, eating with one’s fingers and sitting on floor pillows and rugs during meals.

In total, 20 various 16th-century dishes from the Ottoman Empire will be served with socializing opportunities, an educational class and entertainment to cap off the night.

Tickets are $85 for adults and can be reserved online for the limited-space event.

The venue can be accessed off the 210 freeway to Monrovia.
