Workshop helps locals ace college application process
College-bound students in and around Los Alamitos can attend an informative workshop and seminar.
The 3rd Annual Buena Park goes to College event will give kids and their parents or guardians information about the college preparation and application process, along with tuition tips. The Buena Park Rotary Club, the City of Buena Park, and other community organizations are hosting this free event.
College and University representatives from a variety of California schools will be on site to meet with attendees and answer questions. Dr. Al Valdez from the UC Irvine School of Social Sciences will be the event’s keynote speaker. In addition, U.S. Representative Ed Royce will attend.
Workshop topics will include an overview of California Universities, financial aid, scholarship advice, and tips on writing application essays. Furthermore, one of the workshops will be called ‘Wise Words from the College Board’, which will focus on the new SAT test.
In order to have enough materials, event organizers recommend that attendees preregister. However, registration is not mandatory. Brochure printers have probably been busy creating pamphlets for various universities.
It all takes place on November 1 from noon until 3:30 pm. Buena Park Community Center is located on 6688 Beach Boulevard. For more information, call Aaron France at (714) 562-3554 or Alison Martin at (714) 255-0101. To stay up to date, individuals can also ‘like’ the event’s Facebook page.
