Fairy-themed craft event comes to Los Alamitos area

The Los Alamitos area is hosting an event at the Cypress Library focused on building fairy homes and learning about Irish folklore next week.

The event, which is open to children of all ages, will involve listening to audio stories about Irish folk tales while building small homes for the mythical fairy creatures found in them.

Using recycled and natural materials, participants will build either homes or doors for fairies. Irish folk music will also be played during the event. Lessons about the legends of Irish leprechauns and giants will be part of the festivities, as will an opportunity to learn about the Sidhe, or fairy folk.

The fairies of Ireland were thought to be its original inhabitants, though they do not have wings or wave tiny magic wands like our typical stereotype of a fairy. The legend goes that the Sidhe were once a human tribe, the Tuatha de Danann, but became fairies after they were attacked and defeated by the Milesians. The fairies live in the Otherworld, which can be accessed through entrances like caves, tombs, and hollow trees, according to myth.

Crafting events like this may choose to use flyer printing for low-cost promotion and instruction sheets.

The Fairy Homes event is happening next Wednesday, March 25 from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the Cypress branch of the Orange County Public Libraries at 5331 Orange Avenue.
