Award-winning play comes to Los Alamitos area
The Crucible is coming to the Los Alamitos area when it debuts at Cypress College’s Studio Theatre this October.
The fictionalized account of the real-life witch trials of Salem, Massachusetts, takes place in the Puritan society in 1692. The play centers on a group of girls who, after being stricken with a mysterious illness, accuse some upstanding women in town of witchcraft. However, the accusations are merely a smokescreen to distract attention away from the group of girls’ activities.
The Arthur Miller-penned play originally debuted on Broadway in 1953, picking up a number of Tony Awards, including for Miller himself for Best Author. Beatrice Straight also won for Best Actress and Kermit Bloomgarden won for Best Producer. It also won the overall Tony Award for Best Play.
Since its original debut, The Crucible has seen a number of productions around the world, including multiple revivals on Broadway, and a 1996 film adaptation starring Daniel Day-Lewis and Winona Ryder. The film was also nominated for two Academy Awards, one for Joan Allen for Best Supporting Actress, and one for Miller for Best Adapted Screenplay.
Stage performances like this may choose to use business card printing to stay in touch with the production crew, managers and talent.
The Crucible is playing from October 31 to November 9 at the Studio Theatre at Cypress College at 9200 Valley View St. in Cypress.
