The Los Alamitos area is getting a dose of classic rock when 1964 The Tribute brings its “Beatles Shows” to the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts this September.
With 1964 The Tribute, four American men portray the roles of the individual members of The Beatles, the British rock group prolific in the 1960s that gripped radio stations across the nation.
Mark Benson brings his interest in the guitar since his teenage years to bring the role of John Lennon to life. A multi-instrumentalist since age 8, Benson worked as a guitar repair person at a shop in Akron, Ohio, which included fixing the instruments for famous bands.
Hailing from Cleveland, bassist Mac Ruffing portrays Lennon’s most famous songwriting and musical partner, Paul McCartney. Though he began as a drummer as a teenager, Ruffing later switched to the violin bass, and from there, the bass guitar.
Drummer Ringo Starr is portrayed by Joseph Bologna, a musician since age 6 who was raised in Warren, Michigan.
Doug Couture, from Detroit, fulfills the role of guitarist and co-songwriter George Harrison.
