A unique blend of history lecture and craft all about chocolate and its origins is coming to the Los Alamitos Rossmoor Library next month.
Artbites’ Maite Gomez-Rejon hosts the lecture portion with a history of chocolate, tracing its origins from ancient Mesoamerica to its cultural prominence around the world as a romantic symbol.
Cacao’s transformation and sweetening process into the chocolate commonly found at the store is explored, as well as its cultivation and trade history.
Custom chocolate bark will be created as part of a hands-on activity. The candy can be topped off with a variety of different toppings before it is ultimately taken home by participants.
The event is for ages eight and up, so long as children have an adult participant with them, with a maximum capacity of 25 people. Registration for the 90-minute class can be found online.
Artbites, the organization putting on the event, hosts unique art and culinary history courses that include a combination of lectures and cooking classes. Some of the other recipes explored in the past have included Mexican horchata, citrus and avocado salad, and mac and cheese.
Hands-on experiences like this may choose to use Stationery printing to create art templates, activity schedules, and program lists.
From Cacao to Cupid - A Valentine’s Day Chocolate Experience is happening on Saturday, February 21 from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm at the Los Alamitos Rossmoor Library at 12700 Montecito Rd in Los Alamitos.
