The Los Alamitos Medical Center will be offering a two-part speech therapy program for those with Parkinson’s disease.
Those impacted by Parkinson’s can regain and maintain their communication skills by taking part in two programs called SPEAK OUT!® and The LOUD Crowd®. After a person completes the SPEAK OUT!® program, they can attend group sessions offered at the medical center. The venue will host weekly speech therapy sessions on its campus, led by an experienced speech-language pathologist. Exercises from SPEAK OUT!® are performed by participants in an encouraging environment.
Both programs were created by the Parkinson Voice Project, which is a non-profit clinic that specializes in treating speech disorders connected to Parkinson’s and Parkinson’s-Plus Syndromes. Those who participate in the group sessions, practice the program’s exercises daily, and complete six-month evaluations were shown to maintain their communication skills even as their condition progressed. The non-profit is currently trying to raise $20m to expand its reach. People can help the project meet its goal by donating money or stock online.
The group session at the medical center will be on Sunday, January 1 from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm. There is no cost to attend The LOUD Crowd® program, though participants must register in advance. Organizations offering helpful activities like this may promote their sessions to target audience members by using poster printing.
