The competition, which took place in Upland, California, featured several jazz and other small group dance group categories in which dance teams from around the region performed. The Advanced Dance Team from LAHS came first in the Jazz-large group category as well as in the Jazz-line and Lyrical-small group categories when their overall dance scores were calculated.
The Advanced Dance Team is taught and directed by Richelle Jones, who cheroegraphed the winning Outstanding Choreographer Award. Krystal Fight, a student and part of the Advanced Dance Team, was responsible for choreographing the winning dance for the Jazz-large group category.
A spokesperson for Los Alamitos High School, Tina Dillingo, said about the team’s success:
"The Los Alamitos High School Dance Program embarked on a new opportunity by competing, for the first time, (in this tournament) and emerged with three first place awards and two Overall First Place awards. We are thrilled for our Dance students and appreciate the hard work and dedication of Mrs. Richelle Jones."
