A reverse triathlon event and 5k run/walk is returning to Los Alamitos in the coming months.
The Universal Waste Systems Race on the Base event, presented in part by the City of Los Alamitos, will be held once again in 2025, one year after its return from a four-year absence.
The athletic events are held at the Joint Forces Training Base in Los Alamitos. One of the main attractions is a reverse sprint triathlon that consists of a 5k run, followed by a 13-mile bike ride and finishing off with a 200-meter swim.
Experts say reverse triathlons are more challenging than traditional ones, since swimming at the end can be a test of endurance if the athlete has already completed running and biking leading up to it. For this reason, reverse triathlons are often shorter than normal triathlons.
Public athletic events like this may need banner printing to show participants where the starting line is and flyer printing to advertise it.
At last year’s Race on the Base event, which marked the end of a four-year hiatus, 3,000 people attended, with about 1,200 of those being race participants. Forty-five volunteers also worked to keep the event running smoothly.
The 2025 UWS Race on the Base event will be held on Saturday, March 1 at the Los Alamitos Joint Forces Training Base’s. All proceeds will go toward the Joint Forces Training Base’s USA Water Polo National Aquatic Center.
