Dazzling ships to light the harbor
The Annual Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade will take place later this week. The event attracts spectators and participants from across Southern California, including Los Alamitos, Newport, Anaheim, Los Angeles, Laguna, and Dana Point.
The boat parade glides across the water to the harbor on five separate nights. Starting at Collins Island, the boats will parade along the waterfront for two and a half hours. Over 250 ships are expected to participate, and the organizers estimate more than a million and half people will see the parade.
The Ring of Lights waterfront home and company holiday decorating competition provides an eye-catching backdrop for the parade. Davey’s Locker and Newport Landing is offering three general admission cruises each night for viewing the parade from a boat.
Multimillion-dollar yachts and ships, kayaks, and other small boats will be seen in the holiday parade and the air will be filled with music. Several of the boats will be decorated with animation and amazing Christmas scenes, along with carolers in costumes taking part. Reportedly, boat owners in past events have spent over $50,000 in vessel decorations just for this event.
Many of the vessels use banners to reflect the boats’ or companies’ names. Local print companies are no doubt busy handling the banner printing as ordered.
Taking place December 17 to 21, visit the Christmas Boat Parade website for more info on this event.
