Spooky doings in La Palma

Although it is still high summer, La Palma is already planning activities for later in the year.

The annual Halloween Carnival is La Palma's family-oriented, safe, fun alternative to trick-or-treating the old-fashioned way. Instead of going door to door, families and children can come to the carnival, where they will be able to choose from several activities, including the perennial favorite of a costume contest.

This year, the fun will also include an area where children younger than five years of age can find games they will enjoy; while typical carnival games will be featured in other locations. There is also a maze designed to be scary. Those who wish to enjoy a snack or something to drink will be able to buy treats, thanks to the Kiwanis Club of La Palma.

The always-popular costume contest will be held in the Central Park Pavilion. There are five classes of entries, and each has been assigned a specific time. They are:

• Children two years and younger: 6:30 pm
• Children from the ages of three through five years of age: 6:50 pm
• Children in first through third grades: 7:10 pm
• Families: 7:30 pm
• Young people in the fourth through sixth grades: 7:50 pm.

The Halloween Carnival is free, and scheduled for Halloween itself, October 31. The time has not yet been determined, but it will take place in Central Park. The event will be canceled if there is poor weather. Banner printing can provide fun decorations for outdoor events like this.
