New EMC up and running in Central Park

A new electronics display board has been installed in La Palma, and year after the previous one malfunctioned.

In mid-2018, the Electronic Message Center (EMC) located in La Palma's Central Park, began having trouble displaying messages. It froze presentations, restarted itself automatically, and was prone to overheating. Technicians from the service provider made a number of visits to effect repairs. In addition, a number of parts were replaced, and firmware was upgraded. However, the problems continued, and this spring, the city sent out a Request for Proposal (RFP) for a replacement.

Encore Image, based in Ontario, California, won the contract to remove the old EMC and install a new one. The company finished the job just before the 4th of July, so it was operational in time for the Run for Fun, held on the holiday. The EMC displays public notices and city news, events, public safety information, and the temperature, time, and date.

In addition, residents can advertise their organization's programs or events on the EMC by obtaining an E-Readerboard Request Form from the Community Services Office, which is located in Central Park. Since the Director of Community Services needs to approve any messages to be displayed on the EMC, organizations should make their request at least 10 days before the event goes “live” to allow for approval time. Banner printing can be used to provide decorations to celebrate improvements like this.
