La Palma is helping its residents reduce their clutter by holding the “Annual Bulky Item Spring Clean-up” for residents.
During the designated period, yard waste and large household items will be collected; all residents need do is place the unwanted items near the curb on their regularly-scheduled trash pick-up day.
Most items will be removed; however, there are some materials that cannot be picked up. These include tree branches (unless they are cut down until smaller than four feet long); construction materials such as rocks, concrete, dirt, asphalt, sod and similar materials; items related to cars, like tires, engines, parts, and motor oil; and household waste considered hazardous, such as batteries, pesticides, and fluorescent lightbulbs.
In addition, the city will not be picking up electronic waste items like DVD players, VCRs, monitors, computers, and so on. Information on where and how to dispose of hazardous waste and electronic items can be found on the city's website, which points out that the city already has a Household Recycling Program in place for the likes of plastic, paper, glass, and metal.
The annual cleanup is taking place this week – May 15 to 19. By working with a postcard printing company, those behind the programme can create a postcard for a targeted Mailing to residents, reminding them of the dates of the drive.
