Since January, the City of La Palma has partnered with CityNet to help end homelessness, and the program recently paid off when police were able to help a homeless person find shelter.
Members of the CityNet staff ride with police officers on patrol, where they are able to reach out to people on the streets and help them find emergency shelter or other Forms of housing, and other vital services. Agencies such as this often work with a brochure printing company to create Booklets that can be distributed during contact situations, explaining their mission and resources.
Earlier this month, La Palma police and a CityNet staffer were on patrol when they discovered a person sleeping on the bench at the bus stop in front of a store on Orangethorpe Avenue. They contacted the individual, and found the person was missing from Los Angeles County. Furthermore, they had been on the streets for a considerable length of time.
The approach of officials startled the person, but once they provided water and food, the individual became calm. The CityNet staffer helped police officers place the person in a Costa Mesa shelter, where they will be able to get the assistance they need. In addition, they will be able to have a safe place to live until permanent housing can be found.
