La Palma plans to light its holiday tree

One of everyone's favorite holiday events is coming up, when La Palma holds its Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony.

The evening includes a visit from Santa, musical performances by local students, and the yearly community singalong. There will also be holiday craft-making activities for everybody to participate in, and Santa and his elves will be happy to take pictures with festivalgoers.

Residents are also encouraged to make a donation to the annual Toys for Tots campaign, by bringing a new, unwrapped toy to donate. Toys for Tots is an annual charitable drive, run by the United States Marine Corps Reserve; the Marines have been collecting toys for children since 1947, when Bill Hendricks, a Major in the Reserves, began the effort. As of 2016, they have distributed over 512 million toys to youngsters in need.

This year, the tree lighting has several corporate sponsors, and La Palma officials extend thanks to Rosendin Electric, EDCO Park Disposal, Rutan & Tucker, and West Coast Arborist for their support.

The tree lighting is set for Wednesday, December 6. It will take place in the Central Park Amphitheater on Walker Street. Santa's visits start at 4:00 pm, with the tree lighting ceremony itself scheduled for 5:30 pm. The event will be canceled if it rains.

Outdoor events can be enhanced if organizers use festive Banners, which are sturdy and designed for repeated use, to decorate the venue.
