La Palma plans a healthy Fourth

La Palma officials are encouraging residents to celebrate the Fourth of July in a healthy way—by joining the Fitness Run for Fun.

Everyone can take part to celebrate the community, share quality time with friends and family, and consider how to enhance their health. There are all kinds of competitive events on the schedule, and everyone who takes part will get a medal when they cross the finish line.

Most runs start early, and La Palma’s is no different. The day starts at 6:00 am, with participants checking in. Last-minute entries will also be processed at this time. At 7:30 am, the competitive races begin. There is a 5K run, a 10K run, and a 5K walk – participants should note that no 10K walk is being held.

At the same time the race starts, the Kiwanis will start serving their pancake breakfast, and the Family Fun Zone, which includes live entertainment, opens at 8:00 am. At 8.30 am, a special noncompetitive race for children called the Yankee Doodle Dash takes off, and the awards ceremony is set for 9:00 am.

Overall, first place competitors in the three events, both male and female, will win $100 cash, while those who finish first, second, or third will be presented with commemorative awards.

The USA Track & Field (USATF) will certify and sanction the courses, and the La Palma police will be on hand to control traffic. No doubt festive Banners will abound to add to the fun.
