Education leaders are getting ready to hold a planning session in Cypress, a short distance from La Palma.
The NOCCD: Focus on the Future will be held at Cypress College, in the Event Tent near the Pond. The featured speakers are Sonya Christian, Ph.D., Josh Newman, Senator for the 29th District, and Rob Johnstone, Ph.D.
NOCCD is the acronym for the North Orange County Community College District. Two colleges and one continuing education program comprise the district, which serves almost 78,000 students annually, at either Fullerton College, Cypress College, or North Orange Continuing Education. Students at these community colleges may earn vocational certificates or associate degrees, or be able to transfer to four-year colleges and universities. The continuing education program provides opportunities for life-long learning.
Dr. Christian is Chancellor of California Community Colleges, and will speak on “Vision 2030: A Roadmap for CA Community Colleges.” Senator Newman will discuss his “Fireside Chat with NOCCCD Chancellor Byron D. Clift Breland, Ph.D.”
The final presentation will be by Dr. Johnstone, president and founder of the National Center for Inquiry & Improvement who will consider “Guided Pathways 2.0 & Equity Redesigns.” Among other things, Guided Pathways seeks to remove barriers to education faced particularly by low-income, first-generation students, or students of color.
Focus on the Future is November 3, from 9.00am until 1.00pm, with lunch included. Events like this can be enhanced when organizers use flyer printing to create a handout with the speakers’ biographies and their subjects.
