The Saturday Night Live alumnus is no stranger to sitcoms and stand-up comedy specials; however, the actor recently opened up about what it was like pivoting to a dramatic role with his portrayal in the series Power Book III: Raising Kanan.
In the Starz series, Redd plays Early Tyler, leaning into the morally grey characterization of yet another player in the constant power struggles the crime drama depicts.
Redd is a previous Primetime Emmy Award-winner for his work on Saturday Night
Live and has appeared on sitcoms such as Disjointed and in comedy films such as Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping. However, he has dabbled in dramatic roles in the past, including on Chicago PD.
In a recent interview, Redd said:
“I love comedy, so I don’t want to do it to the point where people forget that’s what I do but I’ve always been interested in dramas.”
Redd added that no matter whether it is comedy or drama, he gives it his all in any role he is given.
