The Lunar New Year Festival is being celebrated in Irvine this weekend.
With the theme of Year of the Horse, the festival will include family-friendly activities for people from all over Orange County. Lunar New Year traditions will be on full display with live performances, customs, artisanal crafts, and rituals to evoke good fortune and prosperity.
More than 15 traditional performances hosted by the South Coast Chinese Cultural Center will be part of the festivities. There will also be special lunar beverages for sale, as well as balloon twisting, face painting, and other family-friendly activities.
The Irvine Spectrum Center is a destination for shopping, dining and entertainment, with the Lunar Festival taking full advantage of the entire campus. Events are slated to take place near H&M, Dave & Buster's and Regal for a variety of dance and instrument performances.
A children’s choir, wushu demonstrations, Chinese and Korean drum shows, Korean fan dances, Chinese dance performances, and a lion dance will all be part of the festivities. The event represents the culmination of similar Lunar New Year festivities that were held around Orange County throughout the month of February. Cultural events like this may choose to use banner printing to create Signs for vendors, activity zones, and food halls.
The Lunar New Year Festival: Year of the Horse is happening this Sunday, March 1 from noon to 4:00 pm at the Irvine Spectrum Center at 670 Spectrum Center Drive in Irvine.
