U.C. Berkeley named among top five universities in the world

U.S. News & World Report put together a ranking of universities around the globe, and Berkeley secured a place in the top five.

Each year, the results of this report are forwarded to Print shops across the country to be used in new university Brochures.

The recently released 5th annual school ranking compared 1,250 universities across 75 countries. Among the best ranked globally were 227 American schools, including four of the top five. In turn, two of those four were located in California – Berkeley and Stanford.

Two Massachusetts universities topped the list – Harvard took the top spot and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology came in second. Stanford University took third place in the world and first place in the state, with Berkeley placing fourth in the world and second in the state.

A total of 13 ranking factors were considered, such as a school’s reputation and academic research performance, as well as a ranking in 22 subjects. Harvard took first place in more school subjects than any other school, with 10 ranked at number one.

The most institutions in a country to make the list is the United States with 227, followed by 130 in China. Coming in third was the UK with 78, and fourth and fifth were Japan and Germany with 67 and 62 universities respectively.

China stood out in its ranking in engineering and computer science, while the U.S. performed best in engineering, computer science, business-economics, and neuroscience-behavior.
