There is still time for Berkeley residents ages 14 through 25 to apply for a paid summer job with YouthWorks, but it will need to be done within the next couple of weeks.
Useful to many as a stepping-stone for college or careers, YouthWorks jobs provide the city’s young people with valuable work experience while allowing them to earn $12 an hour for a maximum of 30 hours a week, starting in July and continuing for no more than seven weeks.
These jobs, which can be in tobacco prevention, government, office administration and youth development, among others, benefit the recipients in a number of ways. In addition to the immediate financial effect, those employed by the program also receive other benefits, such as gaining experience while building self-esteem.
Applicants must be 14 or over at the time of application and have their application completed and turned in no later than March 30. Those wishing to obtain an application must come in person to pick it up from the YouthWorks office at 2180 Milvia Street.
Those stopping by for a 2018 YouthWorks Summer Employment application may also take the opportunity to sign up for a free workshop on résumé writing before creating and sending theirs off to Print shops.
More information about YouthWorks and its summer job program can be accessed by visiting the YouthWorks homepage. Those 18-25 can find out about year-round job opportunities by calling or stopping by the YouthWorks office.
