The 2019 Indigenous Peoples Day Pow Wow will be held this October at the Martin Luther King Jr. Civic Center Park in Berkeley.
The Indigenous Peoples Day Pow Wow celebrates native culture with an event that will have live performances of intertribal dancing and honor songs. Berkeley was the first town in the US to replace Columbus Day with this festival, aiming to promote indigenous cultures and break into mainstream society. Visitors who attend the pow wow are invited to learn and participate in the round dances.
There will also be authentic Native American crafts and foods available to purchase at the event. Vendors interested in joining the on-site Indian Market can email the organizers for additional information. Businesses that attend events such as this can use banner printing to create Signs that improve their visibility. Attendees can enter in raffles at the festival, and there will be giveaways held during the event.
This year’s event will be held on Saturday, October 12 and will begin at 10:00 am. The closing ceremony will start at 6:00 pm. There will be a shawl contest for people interested in dressing up for the festival, in addition to a dancing competition. The pow wow is free, and everyone is welcome to attend. Traditional drummers are also invited to perform at the event.
