Berkeley to celebrate new year with group hike

The Berkeley Path Wanderers Association will organize a walk in January to welcome the new year.

‘Step into the New Year’ is a program where people can enjoy time outdoors at Dorothy Bolte Park. The event will take participants on paths along the border of Berkeley and Kensington. The program starts with attendees hiking as one group, though hikers will get to branch off onto paths of varying difficulty. Guests can choose between a moderate-paced group and a path that is longer with more up and down sections. The leaders of the walk will be Glen Lindwall and John Ford.

The Berkeley Path Wanderers Association is an organization that wishes to preserve, restore, and create public pathways for the community to enjoy. The group is an affiliate of Berkeley Partners for Parks. The association publishes a map of Berkeley's current path network and organizes free events like guided walks. Each group walk held by the organization lasts about 2-3 hours and proceeds at a moderate pace.

The New Year hike will be held on Monday, January 1st from 1:00pm to 3:00pm. The event will be canceled if the weather is rainy. Dogs are allowed on the trek so long as they are well-behaved and on a leash. Community groups in charge of local excursions like this may use poster printing to share their walks with others.
