Berkeley makes rundown of best academic museums

The University of California, Berkeley, can add another feather to its cap, having joined Harvard and Yale on a list compiled by CollegeRank of top 10 college museums.

Taking into account variables such as public access, quality of exhibits and the level of community outreach via educational programs, CollegeRank put together a list of what it considers to be the 50 Most Amazing College Museums in the county. The University of California, Berkeley (UC Berkeley) is the sole Western school to be included in the top 10 on that list.

Topping the list was the Museum of Natural History at Harvard, with its remarkable array of child-friendly exhibits. It was followed by Yale University’s Peabody Museum, which is another natural history entity known for an impressive collection of Incan artifacts and fossils. The Natural History Museums of Berkeley (there are six of them) come in at number 10.

All six of the Berkeley natural history museums are located on campus and include the Phoebe A. Hearst Museum of Anthropology, the University’s Botanical Garden, the UC Museum of Paleontology with its Jurassic Park like Tyrannosaurus Rex, and the school’s Entomology Museum.

CollegeRanking points out that museums are a good source of fun as well as education for patrons. With the help of a postcard printing services, the fun can continue at home with colorful mementos of time well spent.
